The broad focus of this group’s work is on foreign, second, and first language learning and teaching in the UK and abroad. The expertise of members of the group is mainly, though not exclusively, in the secondary sector. The teaching and research activities are aimed at contributing to a more in-depth understanding of processes influencing language education. The disciplines that our work draws heavily upon are applied linguistics, sociolinguistics, sociocultural theory, bilingualism, language teacher education, children’s literature.

Seminars are held in the Donald McIntyre Building, Faculty of Education, 184, Hills Road. All are welcome to attend.
