I personally find maths far more exciting when I can see what I’m doing, but in the face of formal definitions and dry notation that isn’t always easy. With the help of drawings, models and imagination I will help the audience think about hyperbolic surfaces, groups, and higher dimensional spheres.

My talk will have lots of audience participation and will mostly be accessible to Freshers and above. I don’t intend to go into too much detail on the formal definition of the hyperbolic plane from 1B Geometry, but hopefully what I say will be useful for those going on to study it.

This talk is part of the The Archimedeans (CU Mathematical Society) series.
