Dr Nicola Valeri’s biblio/background: “Dr Nicola Valeri is Associate Professor in Personalised Oncology and leads the Gastrointestinal Cancer Biology and Genomics team at the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London. Dr Valeri is also clinically active; he is a Consultant Medical Oncologist and specialises in the treatment of patients with gastrointestinal cancer at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London. His research is focused on colorectal and gastro-oesophageal cancers. Dr Valeri received his medical training in Italy and worked at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Centre in the United States from 2007 to 2011. He was a Senior Clinical Lecturer at Glasgow University before being appointed a team leader at the ICR ’s Centre of Molecular Pathology in 2013. Dr Valeri’s Lab is investigating novel biomarkers of response and resistance to treatment in gastrointestinal cancer patients. Using tissue and liquid biopsies his team aims to define molecular mechanisms and dynamics that govern primary and acquired resistance to anti-cancer treatment. Dr Valeri’s team is also developing large bio-banks of mini-tumours, known as organoids, from metastatic cancer patients to model treatment response.”
