In this talk, it is shown that a single dynamics called ``blended dynamics’’ characterizes the behavior of heterogeneous multi-agent systems when the coupling matrices are possibly all different and/or singular. By analyzing or synthesizing the blended dynamics, one can predict or design the behavior of a heterogeneous multi-agent system when the coupling gain is sufficiently large. This includes analysis of coupled Liénard systems and synthesis of distributed optimizer and distributed observer, which will be also introduced in the presentation. Furthermore, a limitation of the current approach will be discussed with the possible solution of using funnel coupling. Finally, as with the blended dynamics theory, the emergent behavior of the network under funnel coupling will be introduced with its possible utility.
