This talk has been canceled/deleted Given a variety $X$ over a field $k$ embedded into $\mathbb{C}$, the motivic Galois group acts on a quotient of the pro-algebraic completion of the fundamental groupoid of $X(\mathbb{C})$. We will discuss a motivic version of a theorem of Pop characterising the motivic Galois group via these actions. This talk is part of the Isaac Newton Institute Seminar Series series.
