An improved Digital Image Cross Correlation algorithm (DICC) is used with Digital Speckle Radiography (DSR) to investigate the behaviour of granular materials during penetration by long rod projectiles, at dynamic and effectively quasi-static rates. Some further experiments on the behaviour of granular materials during compaction are briefly discussed.

This talk is part of the Physics and Chemistry of Solids Group series.
