Rare B-meson decays to muons at the LHCb experiment

In the Standard Model (SM) the decays of B-mesons to purely muonic final states are highly suppressed and are thus predicted to occur very rarely; they are therefore of great interest when considering indirect searches for new physics (NP). There are several extensions of the SM that introduce new particles or processes that could influence the strengths of couplings in muonic interactions. In light of the recent experimental tensions for particular measurements of b->sll flavour observables—the precision tests of lepton flavour universality (LFU) ratios in particular—we may be starting to see a consistent picture of NP couplings to second-generation particles. In this talk, recent LHCb results for the decays of B-mesons to purely muonic final states, both dimuon and four-muon, are presented.
