With the growing interest in the mental health of children in school it has become important to employ suitable instruments. This paper will report the development of ‘Me and My School’, an instrument designed to assess anxiety, depression and physical aggression in primary and secondary school aged children. The development and subsequent data collection have been part of the evaluation of the Targeted Mental Health in Schools project, a major government initiative. The results are analysed using Rasch software to establish reliability and validity, and to compare it with the widely used Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). The data from Year 4 and Year 7 covers some 19,000 pupils, with some overlap from teacher and parental ratings.

This talk is part of the Rasch Users Group series.
