Courses on High Performance Computing - 18/19th May, 1/2 June 2009

The advent of parallel computing technology has opened great avenues to simulate physical, chemical and biological processes of scientific interest that were difficult a decade ago. Results from these simulations will help us to understand the intricacies involved at a fundamental level, thereby enabling us to better design or control these processes. However, to harvest the full potentials and benefits of massively parallel computers a good level of competence is required on parallel and high performance programming in addition to the relevant scientific knowledge. Two training courses will be run by Numerical Algorithm Group (NAG) at Engineering Department, Cambridge University on: 1. “Introduction to Fortran 95” on 18th and 19th of May, 2009 2. “Introduction to MPI on 1st and 2nd of June 2009. These courses will have lectures and hands on experience on the Terascale computer at HEC ToR. These courses will be run at Location : Engineering Department Lectures : LR3 Practicals : DPO (temporary logins will be provided) Information on these courses and on how to register can be found at http://www.hector.ac.uk/cse/training/. Places are limited and it is on first come first serve basis. These courses are free of charge for the following: 1. HEC ToR users 2. UK academics covered by the remit of EPSRC , NERC, BBSRC 3.
