In this talk we are going to define three metrics on the space of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms on a symplectic manifold; the focus will then be shifted on one them, the Hofer distance, to show how homological methods allows us to measure how Hofer-far a Hamiltonian diffeomorphism is from being autonomous.
