Jane Street: One log to rule them all – How to keep state straight in distributed systems

Talk Overview: At Jane Street, we rely heavily on inter-process communication and real-time message passing to drive many of our most critical systems, but how do you maintain consistency and reliability as those systems grow?

In this tech talk, Matt Else explains how transaction logs, state machine replication and control-flow inversions help to bring cohesion and regularity to a system, and how Jane Street has used Aria to scale it’s trading Infrastructure.

Speaker Bio: Matt Else is a Software Engineer at Jane Street in London, where has been working since 2019. Before joining Jane Street, he studied Computer Science at King’s College, Cambridge. In addition to the Software Engineering side of his role, he is also heavily involved in organizing our Software Engineering internship programme, which he went through himself in the summer of 2018!
