Robot Scientists aim to automate scientific investigations. They use background knowledge to generate hypotheses, then devise experiments that will test these hypotheses, conduct the experiments using laboratory robotics, analyse the results, and then choose the next round of hypotheses. This talk will describe the two Robot Scientists at Aberystwyth, our work towards the formalisation and automation of science, and my perspective as a computer scientist who is attempting to formalise and automate science in a biological laboratory.
