We review the classical theory of averaging lemmas, and explain their use for the weak theory of solutions for kinetic equations. We present a recent result by Jabin, Lin, and Tadmor on quantitative L2 averaging lemmas, and survey recent generalizations to Lp spaces.

This talk is part of the Junior Analysis and PDE seminar series.
