We will discuss a new construction of scalar-flat Kaehler metrics on non-compact 4-manifolds. The construction gives a new perspective on Gibbons-Hawking’s gravitational instantons, and allows us to write down new examples of complete scalar-flat Kaehler metrics on some important non-compact toric varieties. We will give some background on such metrics and show how symplectic geometry is well-suited to tackle them. (Joint work with Miguel Abreu.)
