Fiction, Emotion and Imagination

This talk looks at the philosophical problem of why we have emotional responses to fictional artworks. In addition to discussing some prominent philosophical accounts, I will outline some of the recent psychological research on the nature of emotions, and assess the idea that there may be a distinctive class of ‘aesthetic emotions’.
