In joint work with Paolo Ghiggini and Ko Honda, we prove the equivalence between Heegaard Floer homology and Embedded Contact Homology. The meeting point of the two theories is that, starting with a contact structure on a 3-manifold, the choice of a supporting open book determines a Heegaard decomposition of the ambient manifold and gives control on the dynamics of a compatible Reeb vector field.
