Emergent gravity scenarios are becoming increasingly popular in the scientific community. In this talk I will review some evidence in this sense and discuss some lessons from condensed matter analogues of gravity. These lessons suggest some characteristic features of the emergent gravity framework which can be put to the test with current astrophysical observations. We shall briefly review these tests and discuss the feedback of these investigations on the future development of this line of research.
