In 2 space dimensions particle spin is not quantized. The general theory of relativistic particles of arbitrary spin, and the structure of supermultiplets of such particles, will be reviewed. Relativistic field theory and string theory examples will be presented. Vortices of the N=2 supersymmetric Abelian-Higgs model are semions (spin 1/4). Superstrings are anomaly-free in 2+1 dimensions, despite being non-critical, but their massive spectrum includes anyons of irrational spin.
