A popular natural history film series, Secrets of Nature, flourished in the interwar period. One cameraman, Percy Smith, was very closely associated with the series, and was a minor celebrity in his day. This presentation looks at Smith’s public image as amateur scientist and technologist, and seeks to uncover how this was constructed, asking questions about the relationship of archival sources to biography, and how an example such as this can help us to probe the culture of science in the past.

This talk is part of the Cabinet of Natural History series.
