Margaret Owen, who read law at Girton College in the ‘50s, is a human rights lawyer, founder and director of the international NGO Widows for Peace through Democracy (WPD) www.widowsforpeace.org, and also a founder member of GAPS -UK (Gender Action on Peace and Security). In recognition of her human rights work, especially on behalf of widows overseas, she was awarded an O.B.E this year.
