As use of cryptography has exploded in recent years, so has the vulnerability to exploitation of the multitude of implementations. Organisations such as banks who critically depend on cryptography on a massive scale (both in terms of volume of keys under management and number of different implementations) need: 1. Solutions that enable standardised, central service provision of cryptography, and 2. Implementations of cryptographic standards and protocols that are demonstrably secure. This talk will discuss the requirements and illustrate how research is required to meet them. It will illustrate the real-world applicability of current research to identify weaknesses in implementations of cryptographic protocols.
