In 2003, N. Dunsfield and W. Thurston presented a series of results which gave supporting evidence of the virtual Haken conjecture.

Consider the class of cyclically presented groups and the class of one relator quotients of triangle groups. In this talk, we show how the techniques presented by Dunfield and Thurston can be used to study the property of largeness in both classes of groups.

This talk is part of the Junior Algebra and Number Theory seminar series.
