A whistle stop tour through the current international landscape of the global Domain Name System, looking at the politics and technical issues behind one of the fundamental foundations of the modern internet. In 2013, the DNS faces its largest ever expansion due to the introduction of nearly 2000 new global Top Level Domains into the root of the internet. At the same time, this very system is being challenged by technical threats and social change. We will look at some interesting insights into the behaviour of the UK DNS and discuss some of the technical challenges facing this incredible system around the globe.

This talk is part of the Wednesday Seminars - Department of Computer Science and Technology series.
