In this talk, I will draw on research over several decades into the use of digital technologies to enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics in order to pull out what I see as some common messages. Many have shown, for example, that the teacher’s role is crucial, so professional learning must be a central component of any innovation with digital technologies. But how exactly should this be organized and managed? As a step towards answering this question, I will present examples from my own ongoing research that has as its goal the scaling and sustainability of research-based interventions.
