The main player in the geometric Langlands program is the DG category of D-modules on $Bun_G$ (the stack of $G$-bundles over a curve). Following Arinkin and Gaitsgory, I will define a more manageable category, the \emph{extended Whittaker category} $Wh_G$, together with a functor $\operatorname{D-mod}(Bun_G) \to Wh_G$, which is conjectured to be fully faithful. The construction is motivated by a function theoretic analogy, which I plan to explain.

$Wh_G$ admits a stratification parametrized by standard parabolics; I will describe the ``open stratum” (the one corresponding to the parabolic $P=G$) in terms of the Langlands dual group.
