As part of the Festival of Ideas programme, the University of Cambridge Conservation Research Institute (UCCRI) is delighted to host an evening with the award-winning writer and broadcaster, Richard Mabey; poet and writer, Blake Morrison; Dame Fiona Reynolds, Master of Emmanuel College and ex-Director General of the National Trust; Dr John Fanshawe, BirdLife International; Dr Paul Chirico and Dr Mina Gorji, co-directors of the John Clare Study Centre. We are looking forward to a stimulating discussion on literature and poetry in relation to the natural environment, and an exciting presentation of their forthcoming work. Booking Required.

UCCRI was established by the University of Cambridge in October 2013 to promote and foster inter-disciplinary research on biodiversity and the social context within which humans relate to nature. UCCRI has been reaching out to disciplines not previously considered as traditional homes for conservation research. The arts and humanities are of particular interest and UCCRI is keen to promote work that brings together conservation issues and literary and cultural studies. Artistic and creative approaches to conservation can provide much stronger emotional awareness about conservation within the wider public arena. Poetry and other emotive mediums impart a human element to global environmental issues that can more easily engage society.

This talk is open to the public, booking is preferred via the Festival of Ideas https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/literature-and-conservation-tickets-11989397611
