Day 1
  • Introduction A: We and the students each say who we are and what we do.
  • Introduction B: We explain how the 4 days will run and what we are aiming for.
  • Lecture 1: Big problems in Industrial Maths.
  • Lecture 2: Current trends in Industrial Maths.
  • Presentation of a problem to be worked on in groups of 3-4 students.
  • Initial discussion of the problem all together.

Day 2

Mainly working on the problem in groups, with supervision.

Day 3

Continuing to work on the problem but also to include
  • Seminar 1: Commercial exploitation of research.
  • Seminar 2: Career advice.

Day 4

Presentations of results of the teamwork, to include
  • Written report from each group.
  • Presentation from each group.
  • Demonstration and testing of software written by each group.
  • Reflections on mathematical teamwork – what went well/badly, how effective was it, what helped, what did not.
