In this talk we discuss loose Legendrian embeddings and their absolute analogues, flexible Weinstein manifolds and overtwisted contact structures. The required definitions and essential results will be provided. In the first part we present a criterion that characterizes overtwisted contact structures in terms of Legendrian submanifolds and adapted open books decompositions. In the second part we explore applications to Weinstein cobordisms and flexible (bi)Lefschetz fibrations.

This talk is part of the Differential Geometry and Topology Seminar series.
