The Auroux-Kontsevich-Seidel criterion is a constraint on the self-Floer cohomology of monotone Lagrangians, which is important both conceptually and in calculations. It follows from the construction of a ring homomorphism, the closed-open string map, from the quantum cohomology of the ambient symplectic manifold into Floer cohomology. In this talk I’ll try to give a non-technical introduction to these ideas.

This talk is part of the Junior Geometry Seminar series.
