I will give an introduction to the generalised geometry introduced by Nigel Hitchin and his collaborators, and outline how it is applied in theoretical physics to describe closed string theory in compact spacetimes. The second part of the talk introduces extended generalised geometries and some of my own work on Dorfman brackets for extended generalised tangent bundles.

This talk is part of the Junior Geometry Seminar series.
