If you have a question about this talk, please contact INI IT. This talk has been canceled/deleted Recent seismic observations indicate the presence of a low velocity layer above the mantle transition zone. Marked by a reduction of shear wave speed, the top of this layer is generally detected around a depth of 350 km. In this talk, I will present an analysis of seismic data quantifying the amount of melt present in this region, stability of this partially molten layer over geologic time, and the possible origin of the layer in the context of crystallization of the Earth’s mantle from a magma ocean.
