I’ll discuss recent joint work with Michael Eichmair. We show that there do not exist unbounded area-minimizing surfaces in asymptotically flat three manifolds with non-negative scalar curvature (besides flat R^3). I will also discuss some applications of this result to other geometric questions.

This talk is part of the Partial Differential Equations seminar series.
