There are close connections between categories, topological spaces, and simplicial sets. We will define effect algebroids, which are similar to categories, and have analogous connections to spaces with an action of the circle group and cyclic sets. Effect algebroids occur for example in algebraic quantum logic and in the theory of classifying topoi. We will discuss some of these examples, and explain the analogies between effect algebroids and categories.

This talk is part of the Category Theory Seminar series.
