DESCRIPTION:In this talk I will emphasize on the use of adapti
ve strategies in numerical algorithms to solve sys
tems of ordinary and partial differential equation
s more efficiently and reliably. After a brief int
roduction to local and global error control for ti
me integrators general approaches to combine adapt
ivity in space and time are discussed. Finally\,
I will speak about recent developments in using ad
aptive multilevel strategies for PDE-constrained o
ptimization and uncertainty quantification. Throug
hout my talk I will present numerical results for
academic as well as real-life applications includi
ng chemical reaction-diffusion systems\, regional
hyperthermia\, electro-cardiology\, magneto-quasis
tatics\, glass cooling and complex turbulent flows
.
