DESCRIPTION:A finitely generated group G is profinitely rigid
in the absolute sense if the only finitely generat
ed\, residually finite group that has the same lis
t of finite quotients as G is G itself. The first
examples of full-sized groups that are rigid in th
is sense were constructed in 2017 -- they are fund
amental groups of 3-dimensional hyperbolic orbifol
ds with particular arithmetic properties. In this
talk I shall explain how that construction can be
adapted to prove that certain cocompact Fuchsian g
roups are profinitely rigid in the absolute sense.
This is joint work with Reid\, McReynolds and Spi
tler.\n
