DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we establish a connection between t
wo previously unrelated problems: the compatibilit
y of measurements in quantum information theory an
d the inclusion problem for free spectrahedra in c
onvex optimization. We show that compatibility of
a tuple of binary measurements is equivalent to th
e inclusion of the matrix diamond inside a free sp
ectrahedron defined by the effect operators of the
measurements. We also relate the amount of noise
necessary to render any tuple of binary measuremen
ts compatible to the inclusion constants for the m
atrix diamond. These connections allow us to large
ly improve known bounds for incompatibility robust
ness from quantum information theory. Finally\, we
will show how to extend our results to measuremen
ts with an arbitrary number of outcomes.
