CUAS is the place for everyone with a love for astronomy, whether it is your newfound interest, longtime hobby, or lifelong career!

Founded in 1942, CUAS has been one of the most active academic societies in Cambridge for nearly 80 years. We take pride in bringing together students and members of the university from diverse backgrounds and disciplines with a shared passion for astronomy, and we seek to create platforms that allow our members to delve deeper into and explore the world of astronomy.

We hold weekly talks in Michaelmas and Lent term, where we invite established astronomers, astrophysicists, and cosmologists to share their knowledge on all things astronomy. We have two fine refracting instruments and organise a series of night sky observation events throughout the year for all levels of expertise – ObsNight, where we show you the wonderful sights of the night sky, ObsDemo, where we show you the ropes on handing the telescopes, and ObsTest, where you show us your skills and get certified to use the instruments for yourself! We also organise a wide range of social events like pub quizzes, formal dinners, and garden parties to bring like-minded people together for a good time!

All talks and observation events are free for members or cost £2 for non-members. Life membership costs £12 and annual membership costs £7. They can be purchased at any of our events.
