I intend to explain what optimal transportation is, and how it interacts with curvature. I will then describe its introduction into the theory of Ricci flow (joint with Robert McCann) and some of the work that has followed on from this. In particular, recent work unifies several disparate strands of Perelman’s work into one unified theorem. I will not assume any knowledge of Ricci flow.
