The climate system adjusts towards a new equilibrium state in response to external forcings such as an increase in greenhouse gases. The response of the climate system involves a number of feedbacks which can either dampen or amplify the initial forcing. This talk will review our knowledge of feedback mechanisms in the Earth System that involve changes in the chemical and biogeochemical cycles. We will discuss the carbon-climate feedback and its role in mitigation policies. We will also show the role of couplings between the atmospheric chemistry and the carbon cycle.
