Abstract
This reading group will explore the framing of patients as consumers and the personalisation of medicine, building on the discussions from the first reading group in Michaelmas. We will explore this topic using concepts such as embodiment, the quantified self, and biopolitics, while also adopting a critical historical perspective on the development of the idea of patients as consumers. The discussion will be framed by a consideration of political economy, and the role big data plays in shaping the markets around health. (Reading list available here)
