Closed curves in the plane

Abstract
There are various quantities associated to a closed curve in the plane. We will start by counting self-intersections, inflection points, and repeated tangent lines. Then I will introduce winding number and prove some relationships between these quantities. It will be an accessible talk with no prerequisites.
