Abstract
When using optimisation models to aid the design of urban energy supply systems, it is common to have an objective of lifetime cost minimisation (investment and operation). However, in a process with many stakeholders, there are many, often competing objectives. In this talk I will present an analysis of the impact of various objectives on a district energy system in Bangalore, India. The objectives encompass monetary cost, carbon emissions, and risk of system failure. Clear trade-offs are required when considering different objectives, but I will show that it is possible to manage those within a model, leading to technology portfolio recommendations which balance cost, carbon, and risk simultaneously.
