This talk will highlight some of the key issues in designing programmable systems, as seen from the academic perspective. The challenges involved in the development of new architectures will be outlined. We will focus on the use of analytical and model-based techniques and their role in guiding architecture design processes. In particular, we will emphasise the deployment of these techniques for modern heterogeneous FPG As.
