Abstract
The potential for recent advances in machine learning methods to revolutionise weather and climate science is now widely recognised. At the Met Office, activity in this area has increased considerably in the last 12 to 18 months with the aim of bringing data driven technologies through into ‘business as usual’ within the next few years. In this talk I will give an overview of some of the projects currently underway, discuss some of the challenges we have faced, and present some ideas for future work.
