The seminar will take place via Zoom here.

Abstract: In this talk, I will demonstrate the importance of properly modelling Standard Model backgrounds in tt-associated Dark Matter production. Specifically, I will discuss higher-order corrections and off-shell effects for the two dominant background processes tt and ttZ in the presence of extremely exclusive cuts. I will present exclusion limits for state-of-the-art NLO full off-shell tt and ttZ predictions and compare those to limits computed with backgrounds in the NWA and / or at LO.

In addition, several new-physics sensitive observables will be compared to decide which observables should be used to obtain the most stringent limits and the effects of the central scale choice and integrated luminosity on the exclusion limits will be assessed.

This talk is part of the HEP phenomenology joint Cavendish-DAMTP seminar series.
