Abstract
The Marshall Lectures were founded in memory of Alfred Marshall (1842-1924), one of the pioneers of modern economic science. They aim to present research developments in economics to a wide audience as well as inspiring students to study economics in all its facets.
Prof Ariel Rubinstein will give two lectures presenting theoretical models where conflicts between insatiable wants and limited resources are resolved through social institutions like ‘social status’, ‘power’ and ‘preference biases’ rather than ‘prices and money’. The models will differ fundamentally from the standard economic models which focus on prices and games.
