Professor Detlef Stammer will present a new approach to climate modeling involving coupled data assimilation and Earth System Reanalysis. The approach is based on a coupled adjoint model capable of reducing model biases through parameter optimization and is part of a new research project being led by Detlef and his team at Universität Hamburg. Professor Stammer is also Chair of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) Joint Scientific Committee (JSC), and he will use this seminar to provide a brief overview of some of WCRP ’s new climate science initiatives such as the Lighthouse Activities and new Core Projects. It will also promote the upcoming WCRP Open Science Conference to be held in Kigali (Rwanda) from October 23-27.
