Abstract
The development of smart cities is accelerating, meaning more sensors, more artificial intelligence, and more machine learning. The increased presence of IoT systems globally inevitably increases data collection. It is essential to think carefully about data collection, data storage, cloud computing, and crypto/blockchain ramifications. Collecting and storing data, along with the use of AI and ML, is a huge contributor to carbon footprints. So how can data and data storage be made more sustainable?
