Fundamental concepts such as energy theorems, the geometry of equilibrium, mechanisms & states of self-stress and engineering mechanics are an excellent basis for creating efficient and elegant structural systems. The talk will provide an overview of how some of the concepts of Airy, Maxwell, Michell, Calladine, Pellegrino, Guest and McRobie (along with help from Rankine) provide insights into the creation of structures
