Abstract
Current research into the relative chronologies of the Zalavruga rock carvings in western Russia has opened a number of possibilities in their analysis. Not least is the idea of compositional sequences; viewing carving production as occurring in phases through time. This talk examines the rock carvings of Zalavruga and asks that perennial question of semiotics: in examining representation through time, how can we observe and explain change?
Series This talk is part of the Archaeology Graduate Seminar Series series.
